The Zimbabwe Women's Soccer League (ZWSL) has unveiled its first set of monthly award winners, and the spotlight falls firmly on the Central Region, where two players have set the pace early in the campaign.
Kwekwe Queens' Anita Ncube has been crowned Player of the Month, her tireless midfield displays providing the heartbeat for a side growing in confidence with each passing fixture. Alongside her,
Sheasham Queens' Mitchell Mazhambe has been recognised as the Top Goalscorer of the Month, her sharp eye for goal proving decisive in tight contests and cementing her reputation as one of the league's most clinical finishers.
Both awards will be presented on Saturday, 13 September, with Ncube celebrated in Kwekwe and Mazhambe receiving her honour in Gweru. For the Central Region, the double triumph underlines the growing strength and depth of talent that is beginning to shape the ZWSL narrative this season.
ZWSL vice chairperson and businessman, Lewis Muzhara hailed the winners as trailblazers: "These awards are about celebrating excellence and setting standards. Anita and Mitchell have shown what consistency and hard work can deliver, and their success is also a reflection of the progress we are seeing in the Central Region. They deserve every bit of recognition."
The recognition does not end there. Black Mambas have reason to celebrate too, with the Coach of the Month and Goalkeeper of the Month both hailing from their ranks. Their presentations will be staged on 22 September, when the club returns home.
The inaugural awards mark a significant step for the ZWSL, not just in recognising individual brilliance but in creating storylines that will fuel rivalries and lift the profile of the women's game.
For Ncube and Mazhambe, these honours are more than personal accolades -- they are a statement that the Central Region is ready to dictate terms at the top of the women's game.
Momentum and pride are at stake now, and the rest of the league has been put on notice.
