Baartman speaks on Chiefs debut

Kaizer Chiefs' teenage sensation Luke Baartman has opened up on making his debut for the men in Gold and Black after months of training with the side, unable to play due to a legal dispute.

Baartman has joined Amakhosi after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) declared him a free agent, following Spurs' relegation to the amateur ranks.

However, lengthy legal disputes prevented Baartman from actually playing for Chiefs, as well as representing South Africa's Under-20s at the U20 FIFA World Cup this year.

Amakhosi supporters eventually saw their first glimpse of Baartman in competitive action during the Soweto giants' goalless draw against TS Galaxy.

The match marked a first competitive appearance for new signing Baartman, who joined from Cape Town Spurs following a drawn-out legal dispute.

The speedy 19-year-old was brought on as a late second-half substitute and was a live wire for the Soweto giants, despite failing to break Galaxy's defences.

"It felt good to be back on the field, and it was a proud moment for me to wear the Chiefs jersey," Baartman told the club's website.

"After training hard for the past few months, it was rewarding to finally play for this great institution.

"Though it wasn't easy, since I haven't played for a while, I feel I contributed to the attack as we tried to unlock Galaxy's defence."
