A housing development for the site of a former car showroom in Rathgar has been granted permission after a revamp of the plans.
The plan is for three blocks of housing at the Murphy&Gunn dealership at Kenilworth Square South, making up 19 residential homes. It includes seven two-bedroom, eight three-bedroom and four four-bedroom units.
The new proposal added an extra housing unit but significantly changes the layout of the site. The previous application for housing on the land was refused permission. The applicant looked for five blocks of housing, with 18 housing units overall.
Despite the change, the application was met with concerns by some locals. Concerns included the density of the development, which was still deemed too high and the impact it would have an already "overwhelmed" Rathgar Avenue.
But support also came from some residents who were happy with how the revised proposal addressed concerns surrounding design, amenity space and public access. Owners Murphy&Gunn were also praised for holding meetings with locals and engaging with the community.
Dublin City Council had asked for additional information on the application, including addressing the car parking layout, cycle parking, some landscaping and open space and tree planting for the site. The council deemed the additional information submitted sufficient for a decision.
Permission was granted for the development on December 4.
