A-League club sacks coach

Perth Glory have sacked coach David Zdrilic after only two rounds of the new A-League season.

Glory chief executive Anthony Radlich informed players on Tuesday night that Zdrilic had been axed, with the club soon after releasing a statement confirming the former Socceroos striker had been "relieved of his duties with immediate effect".

Appointed by the Glory in June last year, Zdrilic struggled in his first campaign in charge, with Perth finishing with the wooden spoon last season, winning only four of its 26 games.

The Glory's new campaign started with a 2-2 home draw with Wellington, but Zdrilic's fate was sealed with a 4-0 weekend loss to champions Melbourne City at AAMI Park.

"Owner and chairman Ross Pelligra and the Perth Glory board would like to place on record their gratitude to David for his hard work and professionalism throughout his tenure at the club and wish him every success in his future endeavours." the Glory statement said.

"Members of the existing support staff will take temporary charge of the team for Friday's home game against Melbourne Victory, and an announcement regarding the appointment of a new, permanent head coach will be made in due course."

A-League championship-winning coach John Aloisi, currently contracted to the inactive Western United, is set to be targeted by the Glory as a replacement for Zdrilic.
