NCAA set to make another major change to football transfer portal, report says

The spring transfer portal window for football could soon be no more, according to a report Thursday by Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger.

According to the report, the NCAA Football Oversight Committee has voted to support a single transfer portal window that would begin on Jan. 2. Until now, there have been two transfer periods, one for 20 days beginning in early December and another for 10 days in mid-April.

The NCAA Administrative Committee (formerly the Division I Council) must still sign off on the change at its next meeting. In the past, the Division I Council has essentially rubber-stamped recommendations from the Oversight Committee with few modifications.

Coaches and others around the game have long been in favor of a single transfer portal window at the end of the regular season, allowing programs to essentially set their rosters prior to spring practice. Numerous well-known players hit the portal this past April, giving their former teams limited opportunities to recruit replacements.
