22-year-old seeks N26m for kidney transplant

A 22-year-old woman, Margaret Agbo, has appealed to the public for financial assistance of N25.5m to treat a chronic kidney disease that has severely impacted her health and daily life.

In a statement made available to PUNCH Metro, Agbo said the ailment had placed a huge financial and emotional strain on her and her family.

Agbo, who is currently receiving treatment at the Dialyzer Specialist Medical Centre in Oshodi, Lagos, was diagnosed with chronic glomerulonephritis with suspected autoimmune disease and congestive cardiac failure.

According to a letter from the hospital, the young woman first presented at the clinic on July 13, 2024, with symptoms including vomiting, abdominal pain, leg swelling, and high blood pressure.

The letter, stamped with the hospital's official seal, revealed that her test results showed severely deranged kidney function, low haematocrit, and ultrasound features of chronic kidney disease.

Since her admission, Agbo has received several treatments, including eight dialysis sessions, weekly injections, and oral medications.

For a permanent solution to her condition, the hospital said she would require a kidney transplant and continued weekly dialysis.

"The estimated cost of the kidney transplantation is N25m," Dialyzer stated.

"The estimated weekly cost of dialysis is N180,000, i.e, N60,000 per session, including Erythropoietin Stimulating Agents and Iron Sucrose injections."

The hospital further explained that additional costs include a permanent central venous access procedure costing N270,000, as well as a monthly follow-up specialist appointment pegged at N35,000.
