The opening night for the high school football regular season is two weeks away, but area fans can get a sneak peek at several local teams on Friday night.
Mount Tabor will hold a jamboree with seven other teams at Spartan Stadium and on the school's practice field for varsity and junior varsity teams.
Along with Mount Tabor, teams from Reynolds, Parkland, Walkertown, Lexington, Northwest Cabarrus, Mount Airy and Ben L. Smith are scheduled for two games each.
The event will be a family reunion of sorts for Mount Tabor head coach Tiesuan Brown. His brother, Charles Morman, is the head coach at Lexington, and another brother, Eric Morman, is the head coach at Northwest Cabarrus.
Brown and his two brothers have also been getting together the last few summers for 7-on-7 scrimmages at Lexington High School.
Mount Tabor used to hold jamborees during Brown's first two seasons as the head coach, but went away from them after COVID-19.
Brown said that he was excited to bring them back.
"We went to two scrimmages last year, one in South Carolina and one in High Point, and when I looked into the stands, we had no fans there," Brown said. "I wanted to get that feel with our fans back and in support of it, and getting the city interested in football again ... We've got to get people back and excited about watching football."
There will be four games going on every hour beginning at 5 p.m -- two varsity games and two JV games, each using half of the field.
Doors will open to the public at 4 p.m. and the Winston-Salem Forsyth County clear-bag policy will be in effect.
