Outdoor gym opens for business at community park

A ribbon cutting ceremony has taken place at a new outdoor gym.

Haydon Wick Parish Council celebrated the official opening of the White Eagle Outdoor Gym along with representatives from Harlequin Playgrounds, local councillors, and officers.

The newly installed gym stands near the children's play and sports area at White Eagle.

It features a variety of professional-grade fitness apparatus suitable for all skill levels, from cross trainers to strength training stations, all set on a black surface with green flecks.

Councillor Richard Hailstone, chair of the parks and open spaces committee, said: "It's wonderful to officially open this facility and see it ready for our community to enjoy.

"This project demonstrates what can be achieved when we listen to residents and work with local partners who share our commitment to creating excellent community spaces."

The gym, while already accessible, will hold a launch event on the weekend of 10th/11th January 2026 (exact date and time to be confirmed).

The event will let residents meet the project team, try out the equipment, and receive fitness advice.

The new gym was given the go-ahead in June 2025, after it was voted the top priority in the Participatory Budget Community Choices Programme.

This followed extensive consultation with residents through letter drops and public sessions.
