Sean "Puffy" Combs, also known as Puff Daddy or P. Diddy, is the subject of yet another documentary that examines the rapper's rise to stardom and subsequent fall from grace due to dozens of allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse, some of which include sex trafficking.
'The Fall of Diddy' premiered with two episodes Monday, Jan. 27, and sets the scene for the deep dive into the rapper's many controversies with an introduction to early incidents such as allegations of a threat made to journalist and former CCO of Vibe Media Group Danyel Smith, to the leaked video of Combs allegedly assaulting singer Cassie Ventura.
"When I think of Puffy I think of New York," said Prince Charles Alexander, a former engineer and producer for Bad Boy Records. "Puffy is the Horatio Alger, you know -- up from nothing to something, the rags to riches story."
Combs was born in Harlem, and grew up in Westchester's Mount Vernon.
A childhood friend of Combs' described what it was like for the soon-to-be rapper growing up in Mount Vernon: "He was a product of bullying."
Of interest: Where has Sean 'Diddy' Combs lived in New York and New Jersey?
Combs is awaiting trial from the walls of Metropolitan Detention Center, Brooklyn, a federal prison in the borough's Sunset Park neighborhood. Notably, also housed at MDC Brooklyn is Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Open since the early 1990s, the facility is the only federal jail in New York City, and houses about 1,121 inmates.
MDC has been criticized in the past for harsh conditions.
Combs has been hit with multiple accusations and dozens of sexual assault lawsuits since the video of an alleged assault on Cassie entered the public sphere in 2024.
The mogul's trial regarding allegations he operated a "criminal enterprise" which involved sex trafficking, is set to begin in May.
Combs filed a lawsuit in NY federal court earlier in January that claims he was defamed by someone who allegedly testified in front of a grand jury in his federal criminal case, USA TODAY reported.
The first two episodes of the two-part series 'The Fall of Diddy' premiered Monday, Jan. 27 on Investigation Discovery (ID), and is available both on cable and streaming. Part two premieres Tuesday, Jan. 28.
