Winchester Wanderers lose before Christmas break to South Berks

Winchester Wanderers lose before Christmas break to South Berks

In the last game before the Christmas break, Wanderers were home to South Berks in the first return fixture of the season.

South Berks were much the younger side in this encounter and this proved to be the turning point - their speed on and off the ball was too much for Wanderers.

Wanderers were able to hold their own for the first 15 minutes, then the speed of the South Berks attack overwhelmed the Wanderers' defence and South Berks scored with a well-taken shot from a narrow angle.

This turned out to be the way the whole game went. Wanderers pressing for a goal only to be hit with a fast-paced South Berks attack.

South Berks scored from a short corner late in the first half, then again twice more from short corners in the second half.

A somewhat depressing start to the holiday season.

With thanks to the umpires Andy Craig and Bea Eaton.
