Ferrari 296 Speciale Launched In Malaysia From RM4.29M

The Ferrari 296 Speciale takes the company's V6 PHEV to new performance heights.

Ital Auto Malaysia, Ferrari's authorized distributor, today introduced the Ferrari 296 Speciale to the market with its entire allocation of 25 units sold out prior to launch. The 296 Speciale is a mid-engined plug-in hybrid that delivers a much higher tier of performance over the 296. Think of it as the modern successor to the Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale and 488 Pista.

The Ferrari 296 Speciale is available in Malaysia priced from RM4,288,000 including import duties, excluding options, registration and insurance.

The Ferrari 296 Speciale A is available in Malaysia priced from RM4,888,000 including import duties, excluding options, registration and insurance.

It includes an extended 7-year maintenance programme with 20,000km/annual maintenance intervals.

The Ferrari 296 Speciale is powered by a 2.9L twin-turbo V6 plug-in hybrid powertrain capable of an output of 880PS - the highest of any rear-wheel drive production car by the company. It has a maximum speed of 330km/h, a 0-100km/h time of 2.8 seconds and a 0-200km/h time of 7 seconds. Around Fiorano, it only takes 1'19".

Compared to the Ferrari 296 GTB, the engine has been re-designed with strengtening and weigh-saving measures in mind. These include the use of titanium connecting rods, titanium fastener screws and stud bolts, along with reinforced pistons, and a lightened crankshaft.

An F1-inspired knock control strategy raises combustion chamber pressure by 7%. Other than that, carbon fibre bodyshell parts have also been employed. The electric motor also sees an improvement in power over the 296 GTB's thanks to a new extra boost mode. The improvements in weight savings brings the car's overall weight down by 60kg.

Besides that the Ferrari 296 Speciale also generates 435kg of downforce at 250km/h, which is 20% more than on the 296 GTB. This is thanks to a new aero damper, vertical fins, side wings, and an active spoiler.

The vehicle is also set up with dedicated suspension geometries and is 5mm lower, which improves roll angle and lateral acceleration. It comes with Multimatic single-rate shock absorbers from the 296 GT3 as well as titanium springs. A unique set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres were developed for the car.

The 296 Speciale showcases a bold and radical design, diverging from the elegant lines of the 296 GTB and drawing clear inspiration from closed-wheel racing Ferraris. At the front, a suspended splitter and wing-shaped element enhance the car's aggressive stance, complemented by larger air intakes for improved aerodynamics.

The bonnet features a striking contrast of positive and negative surface effects, adorned with three symmetrically arranged pairs of louvres -- a signature of Ferrari's special editions. Finished in the exclusive Verde Nürburgring, the exterior also introduces a white livery option with one or two longitudinal stripes, a first for Ferrari.

Inside, the cabin is race-focused and minimalist, highlighted by extensive carbon fibre and Alcantara, with sleek door panels and a centre tunnel crafted from a single block of carbon fibre. The iconic "shift gate" stands proudly at the heart of the carbon fibre centre tunnel, commanding attention and celebrating Ferrari's racing heritage.
