Catholic Charities of Acadiana responds to cut in SNAP benefits

LAFAYETTE, La. -- After the announcement that SNAP benefits will not be issued on Nov. 1, Catholic Charities of Acadiana is asking for the community to help with food insecurity by donating.

CCA suggested community members pick up extra canned goods and make donations to the Foodnet Food Bank collection boxes in grocery stores across Acadiana.

"About 18 percent of the entire state of Louisiana has some form of reliance on supplemental food benefits," said Ben Broussard, chief of external affairs for Catholic Charities of Acadiana. "It's a major concern. I know that a lot of those who receive those food benefits are families with young children, so we are seeing an uptick in phone calls...people who are concerned about how they are going to meet that need of putting food on the table."
