Strictly Come Dancing pro takes aim at judges after 'unfair' comments - Birmingham Live

Strictly Come Dancing judges Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel Horwood came under fire tonight from their fellow judges, a pro dancer and fans at home after their 'unfair' comments about one celeb.

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey - aka Nitro from Gladiators - had been tasked with performing an Argenting tango for Saturday night's live Icons Week show, taking on the form of musical legend Usher and performing to his hit Caught Up with pro partner Karen Hauer.

But the performance caused a divide among the judges, as Shirley and Craig hit out at the 'bump and grind' moves in the dance despite Harry being tasked with representing Usher.

Head judge Shirley said: "This is a tango, an Argentine tango. It got a little mixed for me between a little bit of a bump and grind and an Argentine tango."

Motsi Mabuse quickly interrupted to defend Harry, crying 'It's Usher!' in disbelief.

Craig Revel Horwood said: "I felt like you were walking through it, standing, placing, standing, placing and not actually dancing step to step.

"And I wasn't entirely fond of throwing all the groove stuff in there."

Following the comments, Karen Hauer was eager to defend Harry, issuing a snap at the judges and telling Claudia Winkleman: "It's icons week right? Or did I miss it?"

Harry added: "I was given a task to do an Argentine tango to Usher. I took it on, I done it to the best of my ability and that's all I can do."

Fans at home were also quick to rush to Harry's defence. @gothikaa13 wrote on X: "If you don't want "Icon's" style in the dance - DON'T PUT IT AS A DAMN THEME!! They are all doing it. Yes, it wasn't a great mix, but Harry did fantastic with what he was given #strictly."

@kay_emery656 said: "Totally was Karen said, it is icons week right or did i miss it. You can't criticise Harry for the choreography and forget it's a themed week. I thought that was amazing."

And @STurner4077 echoed: "Why have an Icons week, make the celebs dance to music that's not really suited to the dance then criticise them for bringing a bit of the icon's style into the dance? Bal and Harry especially."

@sukieshas commented: "what are they even talking about obviously an argentine tango to USHER is gna be a little different #Strictly, " and @xktdochxox added: "I dont get the "whyd you add groove/ bump n grind" comments... you gave the guy Usher to mimic?? with an argentine tango?? so like what was he supposed to do."

The couple were scored 30 points from the judges; 6 from Shirley; 7 from Craig; 9 from Motsi and 8 from Anton.
