34 LIV Golfers join the Hong Kong Open field offering major qualification spots

Asian Tour and The International Series return to Hong Kong this week. The Hong Kong Open 2025 is set to tee off on Thursday, October 30 at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling. Interestingly, this is the first-ever edition of the event to offer its champion a spot in The Masters and The Open along with valuable points on the International Series rankings that awards a LIV Golf card to the year-end leader.

Owing to the major qualification spots on offer, the Hong Kong Open will see a stacked field headlined by 27 active LIV Golfers. Apart from this, the $2,000,000 purse event will also feature five LIV reserves and two of this year's relegated players in its field. For the unversed, Patrick Reed won the competition at Hong Kong Golf Club last year after shooting Asian Tour's second-ever 59. The 2018 Masters champion will return to the 136-year-old course to defend his title this weekend.

The reigning champion will be joined by the likes of Talor Gooch, Harold Varner III, Dean Burmester, Adrian Meronk, Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel, among others. It is pertinent to note that Stinger GC's Burmester finished fifth on the Saudi-backed series' 2025 season-long standings, making him one of the favorites at the competition. He was closely followed by Gooch and Reed in the standings, who finished sixth and seventh respectively.

Apart from the LIV Golf regulars, reserves including the likes of Wade Ormsby, John Catlin and Ollie Schniderjans join the field. Meanwhile, relegated Anthony Kim and Yubin Jang will also tee it up in Hong Kong as they try different pathways to get back into the Saudi-backed series' roster. It is noteworthy that Bubba Watson, who withdrew from the Interantional Series Philippines last week, has skipped the Hong Kong Open as well due to a finger injury which required surgery.

Former LIV star Scott Vincent, who was a regular for Joaquin Niemann's Torque GC in 2022, currently leads the International Series rankings. The 33-year-old Zimbabwean golfer tops the list with 318 points from six outings. He is followed by Filipino Miguel Tabuena with 210 points from same event count. It'll be interesting to see how the rankings change after the Hong Kong outing.

More details on the Hong Kong Open 2025 will be updated as the event progresses.
