Cedar Breaks National Monument Reopens State Route 148, Kicking Off Summer Season - The Independent | Southern Utah's #1 Source for Arts, Events & Entertainment

After a long winter blanketing the high plateaus of southern Utah, summer is officially on its way. Cedar Breaks National Monument has reopened the scenic stretch of State Route 148 that winds through its breathtaking alpine amphitheater, thanks to extensive snow removal efforts completed in partnership with the Utah Department of Transportation.

This annual reopening marks a major milestone and welcomes the return of summer visitation to one of Utah's most vivid and elevated natural landscapes.

"We're incredibly grateful to our National Park Service staff and UDOT partners," the park's leadership shared. "Their dedication and teamwork ensure visitors can experience the stunning scenery of Cedar Breaks safely and on schedule each year."

Visitor services at Cedar Breaks will resume on Friday, May 23, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend. While limited facilities will be operating daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, trail access will depend on remaining snow and safety conditions. Guests are encouraged to check the park website or contact the visitor center for up-to-date trail availability.

The Point Supreme Campground is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, June 19. Campers planning to visit can make reservations in advance through recreation.gov.

Whether you're heading out to hike the rim, photograph wildflowers, or gaze into the brilliantly eroded amphitheater, this high-elevation haven is ready to welcome you back.

Established in 1933 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Cedar Breaks National Monument protects a dramatic geologic amphitheater carved into the western edge of the Colorado Plateau. Known for its striking multicolored rock formations, bristlecone pines, and panoramic views at over 10,000 feet, the park offers visitors a mix of scenic beauty, natural science, and cultural heritage.
