Seven million hours of funded childcare provided in Swindon

The hours have been provided across Swindon since the introduction of the Working Family entitlement scheme in April 2024, supporting 28,000 children.

The scheme offers up to 30 hours of government-funded childcare for eligible working parents of children from the term after their child turns nine months until they reach school age.

Councillor Paul Dixon, Swindon Borough Council's cabinet member for children, said: "It's fantastic that we have been able to support the delivery of more than seven million hours of funded childcare delivered to thousands of families in Swindon since the launch of this Working Family entitlement.

"I encourage all eligible families to find out how they can benefit by visiting the Best Start in Life website today."

Swindon Borough Council currently supports 236 registered childcare providers, including 137 childminders.

So far, the scheme has provided 989,000 hours of care to 4,280 children aged nine to 24 months.

An additional 1.5 million hours have supported 7,390 two-year-olds, and 4.5 million hours have supported 16,351 three- and four-year-olds.
