A Dothan man is in Houston County Jail without bond after being arrested Sunday charged with first-degree kidnapping, and first-degree sexual of a female under the age of 18.
Stephen Spencer Ayers, 46, was arrested by Dothan Police after officers were called to a motel in the 2100 block of Ross Clark Circle in Dothan at about 1 p.m., according to Dothan Police Chief William E. Benny.
Police investigators say Ayers, who was a resident at the motel, inappropriately touched the victim, who is under the age of 18, before forcefully taking her into his hotel room, Benny said. "Fortunately, hotel housekeepers saw the incident, acted quickly, and removed the victim from the room before calling police."
Benny said that when DPD officers arrived at the location Sunday afternoon, employees told officers about the incident in which Ayers forced a female into a motel room. They intervened and removed the female, who was a juvenile under the age of 18.
Benny said that Ayers attempted to flee on foot from the second floor after officers tried to make contact with him, but officers were able to quickly surround him and take him into custody.
"It was discovered, after speaking with the victim, that Ayers had made sexual advances toward the victim, which she refused," Benny said. "Ayers then touched the victim inappropriately, and the victim tried to leave the area. Ayers then grabbed the victim from behind and forced her into a hotel room.
"Crimes like these will not be tolerated," Benny said. "The Dothan Police Department will hold those who commit these crimes accountable to the fullest extent of the law."
