The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks Tuesday night, which means you could see "shooting stars" in our night skies.The Perseids originate from the debris left behind from the comet Swift-Tuttle. As the Earth passes through this debris, some gets pulled into the atmosphere at speeds near 133,000 miles per hour, causing the fiery streaks.Under perfect viewing conditions, up to 100 meteors per hour are possible. This year, expectations are closer to 15 meteors per hour. The reduction is mainly due to bright moonlit skies.
