Haunted Trail Walk in Kaukauna brings Halloween spooks and scares a day early

KAUKAUNA (WLUK) -- Just a few hours before Halloween, plenty of people in Kaukauna decided to celebrate early.

The Kaukauna Public Library hosted a Haunted Trail Walk at 1000 Islands Environmental Center.

"I almost died the first couple seconds. I'm just like, 'Oh, we're gonna die!' I know it's all fake, I'm just like, 'It's funner to feel like you're gonna die,'" said Lyla Grimh from Kaukauna.

"It was really fun. It was probably one of the scariest things I've ever been through," added Scarlett Goffard from Kaukauna.

Prep work started in July. This free event is put on for the kids, all because of a shared love of Halloween.

"It's 100% done by the hard-working people of Kaukauna. Like I said, a lot of my friends, we just spent the time painting the signs and that decoration is by our adult services librarian. We pulled it right out of his front yard," said Casey Woodward, organizer and librarian assistant at Kaukauna Public Library.

This is the first year of the Haunted Trail Walk. It offered a pre-Halloween scare to those brave enough to try it.

"When the person had the cut on the neck, I wanted to stay back and help her, but I had to keep walking. I'm just like, 'Oh god, I'm a terrible person,'" said Grimh.

If you survive the haunted walk, more family friendly fun was waiting.

"At the end there's going to be free s'mores. There's a literacy component to it. We're going to be doing spooky story starters," said Woodward.

Even though they were happy to start celebrating Halloween Thursday, guests are still excited for the real holiday.

"I like to dress up and go to doors and get candy and then eat all of them the first night because I know my dad's gonna eat them," said Grimh.

FOX 11 asked Lyla and Scarlett what they were dressing up as tomorrow.

Scarlett said she's going as 'Ghostface' and Lyla is dressing up as an evil queen.

Both girls said if the Haunted Trail Walk returns next year, they'd love to go back and would recommend it to their friends, too.
