Ambitious plan to transform N.J. city moves forward with $297M boost

The next phase of a massive redevelopment in East Orange is getting closer to breaking ground with the award of a $297 million tax credit award under the state's Aspire program.

The state recently approved the tax credits for The Crossings at Brick Church Station Phase 1B, a nine-story, mixed-income housing development with 420 multifamily rental units in East Orange.

It is expected to break ground this month.

The project will have 84 affordable housing units and 63 workforce housing units.

533 Main St., LLC received the tax credit award for the luxury apartment project, which is planned for 533 Main St., according to a statement.

The project is one of several in the state approved in September by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority for tax credit awards under the Aspire Program and Historic Property Reinvestment Program.

The building will include a common area for residents along with retail, restaurant, office and medical space, plus 342 parking spaces.
