The Los Angeles Rams got the deal done before the season.
That surely was a goal for the Rams and Kyren Williams as they worked on a contract extension, and it's complete.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Williams signed for three years and $33 million, including $23 million guaranteed.
It's a big deal for the Rams, who secure their workhorse running back for the foreseeable future.
"Kyren Williams accounted for 43% of the Rams' total touches last season, the highest rate in the NFL, per ESPN research," Schefter wrote on X. "He rushed for a career-high 1,299 yards and 14 TDs on 316 carries, while also adding 34 catches for 182 yards and two more scores in Sean McVay's offense."

This is also a big deal for how it impacts a team across the country from Los Angeles.
The Buffalo Bills have been locked in negotiations with James Cook, their own star running back. Cook, early this offseason, said he thought he deserves $15 million per year.
Now that Williams has gotten $11 million per year, it frames Cook's deal in a new way.
"Some around the league believed this was the deal, between Kyren Williams and the Rams, that had to get done before James Cook and the Bills escalated their contract talks," Schefter wrote on X.

Cook has been a hold-in at practice this week after taking the field for the first week of training camp.
It's not clear whether Williams' deal will actually help Cook's negotiations get over the line, but it certainly presents another data point.
The Rams are happy and have their man. Will the same be true for the Bills?
