New York man arrested in Chinese restaurant robbery

POTTSVILLE -- City police arrested a Brooklyn, New York, man in connection with an April 29 robbery at Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant.

Nigel Farrod Jackson, 24, was identified as the suspect in the incident and was arraigned on robbery and other charges May 17, police said.

Police said that on May 17, officers on patrol saw a man, later identified as Jackson, who matched the description of the suspect and interviewed him. While under interrogation, Jackson fled from officers on foot. They chased him down several blocks and subsequently took him into custody.

Jackson had stolen an undisclosed amount of cash from the restaurant's register, and he appeared on surveillance video from a nearby business, police said.

Police said Jackson was positively identified by the victim of the robbery. Jackson was arraigned before on-call District Judge Anthony J. Kilker on a felony charge of robbery and a misdemeanor of theft by unlawful taking. He faces additional charges of fleeing officers on foot and false identification for his actions prior to his physical arrest.

Jackson was remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison, where he remains on $25,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 23 before District Judge James K. Reiley in Pottsville.
