What Oklahoma transfer Dasan McCullough's potential new role could be at Nebraska

LINCOLN -- Dasan McCullough, pass rusher? Nebraska is leaning that way with its senior portal addition who has spent his college career just about everywhere else.

McCullough has played in 22 games during stints at Indiana and Oklahoma, mostly at outside linebacker and safety. NU coach Matt Rhule said Saturday the defender perhaps "hasn't found a home" and that it could be closer to the line of scrimmage.

"We have to take his athleticism, we have to add some bulk to him so he can withstand rushing the edge and hope that it translates," Rhule said. "I think it will."

The 6-foot-5 athlete listed at 235 pounds is an all-downs, all-packages sort of contributor, Rhule said. McCullough can operate in a 3-4, a 3-3-5 or four-down rush look. His label, if there is one, might be the hybrid lineman/linebacker "Jack" spot that will largely reset in 2025.

Asked about Georgia Southern transfer linebacker Marques Watson-Trent, Rhule said the senior is another one-season prove-it player with a chance to show NFL scouts what they can do in the Big Ten.

"Both guys have one year to get it done," Rhule said, "and they're very serious about it."
