SEC fines Mississippi State for rushing the field after Arizona State game

Mississippi State's big win over Arizona State comes at a big cost.

The SEC announced Monday that MSU is being fined $500,000. Instead of different fines depending on how many times a program has violated the conference's access to competition area policy, all violations now come with a $500,000 fine as part of a policy announced at the SEC Spring Meetings.

Mississippi State was aware of the policy. Video from Saturday night shows that the Davis Wade Stadium video board had a countdown clock for when fans could access Scott Field, but Bulldog fans were not willing to wait and wanted to be on the field to celebrate the upset of a ranked Arizona State squad. Goal posts were quickly taken down, but Bulldog fans carried them out of the stadium.

Up next, Jeff Lebby's team continues nonconference play, hosting Alcorn State on Saturday. The Bulldogs will also host Northern Illinois in Week 4 before Tennessee comes to Starkville in Week 5, beginning SEC play.
