RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - We have Sunday as a First Alert Weather Day for light snow. Monday is a First Alert Weather Day for frigid wind chill temperatures.
Sunday's snow showers before sunrise an exit by mid-morning. Precipitation could briefly start and rain before transitioning to snow.
Here's what radar could look like at 6am Sunday:
Snow will be quick to move through the region and there may be a brief burst of heavy snow. Though overall accumulations are expected to be minimal. Primarily on grass and elevated surfaces. Snow shouldn't stick to roads or sidewalks but could create some slick spots on bridges and overpasses. This snow will not be widespread and many of us will stay dry.
If you do see snow, here are potential snow totals:
In white, a trace to half an inch . This includes Richmond and Petersburg. In blue, a half inch to an inch. This includes portions of the Northern Neck.
During the day Sunday, temperatures will fall and winds will pick up out of the north and northwest gusting upwards of 30mph. This ushers in very cold air that will stick around into Monday.
Cold temperatures and a gusty breeze Monday morning will make it feel like the single digits. The National Weather Service has issued a Weather Advisory in effect Sunday Evening until Monday morning.
This is what it could feel like Monday morning:
It could be dangerous to stand outside for a long time without the proper winter coat/gear. Make sure your family, including your pets, stay warm! Winds should die down in the afternoon but it will still be very cold.
Looking for a warmup? Next Thursday we have the forecast high near 60°! That would be the first above average day so far this month!
