'Thank goodness'... UFC fans rejoice as major event change throws doubt over unwanted title rematch

The third Noche UFC event will no longer be the first to take place on Mexican soil.

After celebrating Mexican Independence Day at the T-Mobile Arena and the Sphere in Las Vegas thus far, Noche UFC in 2025 was announced for Guadalajara.

Initial worries about the UFC competing against Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford on September 13 were replaced with concern over Arena Guadalajara actually being constructed in time for the Octagon's arrival.

And delays in completing the venue have ultimately led to a change in plans.

The promotion announced during Saturday's UFC Vegas 107 event that Noche UFC will now happen in San Antonio and will no longer serve as the UFC 320 pay-per-view.

Many see a huge silver lining to that alteration.

Before the forced decision to change location was announced at UFC Vegas 107, speculation over the September 13 PPV had caused some uproar.

With limited options for a Mexican headliner, reports claimed the UFC planned Alexander Volkanovski vs Yair Rodriguez 2 for the main event, granting 'El Pantera' a surprise title rematch.

Having gone 1-1 since a one-sided loss to the Australian in 2023, Rodriguez was widely branded undeserving by fans and analysts.

With that in mind, many were rejoicing at the news of Noche UFC being downgraded to a UFC Fight Night, concluding that Volkanovski vs Rodriguez 2 will no longer be in the pipeline.

"Now give us an actual good main event instead of Volk vs Yair."

"Please scrap that bogus Yair rematch and we're cooking."

Other fans pitched alternative matchups for Rodriguez at Noche UFC, alongside calls for a long-awaited title matchup between Volkanovski and an undefeated contender.

"Do the right thing and make this Yair vs Diego and give [Movsar] Evloev the title shot."

"Now make Movsar vs Volk."

Having evidently failed to boost his popularity among the UFC higher-ups, Evloev appears set to fight yet another contender.

The Russian has gone 9-0 in the Octagon, most recently defeating Aljamain Sterling, Arnold Allen, and Diego Lopes. While such a run would usually make someone a shoo-in for a title shot, Evloev continues to be overlooked by Dana White.

The 31-year-old revealed his latest snub in a post on social media, announcing that he's accepted a different fight for UFC Abu Dhabi on July 26.

"If you are a UFC fighter and believe you are the best in the world, then you have [to] fight every fight they throw at you, no risk no reward," Evloev wrote.

"See you guys in July, it's ON. #UFCAbuDhabi"

Per Bloody Elbow sources, the bout Evloev accepted is a five-round co-main event against UFC newcomer Aaron Pico.

It remains to be seen whether a 10th straight win under the UFC banner will finally be enough for Evloev to earn a shot at the champion.
