Cardinals' Jonathan Gannon confident in team's direction

Despite an underwhelming win against the Panthers on Sunday, Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon is confident in the team's ability to clean up its mistakes going forward.

"It's hard to be 2-0 and it's hard to win a game (in the NFL) but I just feel like we're a better team than what we put out there but I feel better about the solutions going forward to get better," Gannon told Arizona Sports' Burns & Gambo on Monday.

The Cardinals are 2-0 for the first time since 2021 following a narrow 27-22 win against the Panthers. Arizona's win on Sunday wasn't the prettiest as the Cardinals nearly blew a 24-point lead to the Panthers. The Panthers had a chance to take the lead late in the fourth quarter before a Calais Campbell sack on a fourth-down sealed the victory for Arizona.

Gannon said that one of the key things to clean up going forward will be self-inflicted mistakes, including the 21 penalties they've committed in the first two games of the season.

"There's a lot of penalties that are hurting the ball club right now and we've been kind of a low flag team. It's not a winning stat, but it can hurt you in a game and kill drives, sustain drives, changes field position and you're just making it really hard on yourself," Gannon said.

"We've pointed some of those things out today and how do we fix them and how to correct those mistakes. We have to play a little cleaner."

Gannon said he was feeling better about the team's start as he feels the mistakes they've made are fixable.

"I feel better today than I did last night because the solutions are correctable and we got to correct them," Gannon said. "It's everybody. It's coaching it better, playing better, making sure we're on point with these things and making sure I cover these things in a team meeting."
