The new upgrade for ChatGPT may have been leaked by GitHub. It's thought OpenAI will be announcing the GPT-5 changes later today.
OpenAI is rumored to be announcing the new models behind ChatGPT 5 later today, however a new leak has given us a sneak peek at what the company may be announcing. An early blog post shows us four models that are likely part of the upgraded tool.
Software platform GitHub published a blog post on August 6, which was quickly removed, detailing what to expect in GPT-5's models. The fact it was removed is a sign this was a mistake on GitHub's part, and suggests the information is accurate.
The post was spotted by Reddit users and The Verge. Even though the post has been deleted, the internet caught an archived version that is still visible.
GitHub's post said, "GPT-5 is OpenAI's most advanced model, offering major improvements in reasoning, code quality, and user experience. It handles complex coding tasks with minimal prompting, provides clear explanations, and introduces enhanced agentic capabilities, making it a powerful coding collaborator and intelligent assistant for all users."

As with all leaks, take this information with a pinch of salt until we hear directly from OpenAI. However, this looks likely to be accurate information that was accidentally posted early.
OpenAI employees have spent the last couple of weeks teasing a major update, and the brand announced a livestream event for later today. It referred to today's launch as a "LIVE5TREAM," which is set for 10 a.m. PT or 1 p.m. ET on August 7.
It's currently unclear if the company will immediately roll out its GPT-5 changes, or whether it will announce a launch for a later date.
