A three alarm brush fire was burning Friday afternoon near the New Jersey Turnpike, fire department officials said.
The fire was located in a field near the border of North Arlington and Kearny.
Local fire departments warned the public to avoid the area of 700 Belleville Turnpike as they continued to battle the blaze.
Video taken by a passing motorist showed the fire burning in the large field. A large column of smoke was seen rising from the flames.
It was unclear what sparked the blaze.
Winds continued to gust throughout the Garden State Friday afternoon with gusts as strong as 55 to 60 mph reported by the National Weather Service.
These conditions coupled with low humidity caused weather officials to also issue a fire danger alert for most of the state on Friday afternoon.
