A new movie about club lacrosse is filming in Syracuse.
"Club Lax," written and directed by Syracuse University alumnus Ryan Taggart, is looking for extras to film a scene at Lucy Blu Island Bar & Club on Marshall Street tonight (Sunday, May 18). Taggart said anyone interested in getting involved should contact @clublaxthemovie or @taggdaddy12 on Instagram; extras can be paid $20 for a short amount of work.
The scene at Lucy Blu is described as a "bar fight," according to the casting call, which seeks men and women ages 18-30.
According to the logline, "Club Lax" is a feature film about a Division 1 Lacrosse player who is kicked off the D1 team and his only chance of transferring to Yale is joining the school's club team. The movie focuses on the theme of "wasting your talent and finding your home," as well as asking whether the issue carries beyond sports into other aspects of their life.
Taggart, who graduated from SU's School of Information Studies in 2020 after previously attending Hofstra University, described the story as "Last Chance U" with a lacrosse twist.
"Club Lacrosse my freshmen year at Hofstra University was one of the greatest years of my life," he wrote on Instagram. "You had one bucket of players that were former Division 1 players that quit to either pursue academics harder or who burned out and just wanted to party. You had another bucket of total outcasts and weirdos who most likely couldn't get a bid to a frat but still wanted the camaraderie. And then another bucket of guys who just loved the game."
"College Club Lax is this decade's version of 'Last Chance U' and I look forward to meeting with more players and teams asking the question that the universe must know the answer to... #whyclublax."
Additional scenes are expected to be filmed around Syracuse, including at Onondaga Community College, this week. A cast and release date have not been announced.
