Delta flight headed to S.C. declares emergency, returns to Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Delta Air Lines flight had to return to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday morning because of "haze" inside the cabin, the airline said.

Delta flight 876 was en route to Columbia, South Carolina, when an emergency was declared after takeoff at around 9 a.m., the airline said.

There were 94 customers, two pilots and three flight attendants on board the Boeing 717-200.

They said slides were deployed after landing and Delta teams brought the passengers back to the terminal by ground transportation.

"The flight crew followed procedures to return to Atlanta when a haze inside the aircraft was observed after departure," the airline said in a statement. "Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people and we apologize to our customers for the experience."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said they would be investigating the incident and mentioned "smoke" in the flightdeck.
