A back-to-school drive will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Middletown Community Park.
In addition to providing school supplies, this drive will also focus on meeting other important needs by offering lunch boxes, hygiene products and shoes to students. There will also be free haircuts and lunch available for all attendees. In addition, there will be a vendor fair, featuring a variety of community resources and services for families who could benefit.
Middletown train station
Middletown will break ground on the rebuild of its train station at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the train tracks on 1st Street.
The project is a partnership between the Winchester and Middletown Model Railroad Association, Dave Holliday Construction and the Town of Middletown.
Strength In Peers
Strength In Peers, the largest peer-run recovery organization in the Shenandoah Valley, has opened a new Community Resource Center in New Market at 9560 S. Congress St. located next to Southern Kitchen Restaurant.
The Center offers free, walk-in support services for individuals facing substance use, mental health challenges or trauma, with a special focus on those experiencing homelessness, reentry from incarceration or rural poverty.
Available services include case management, referrals and application assistance for housing, healthcare, employment and recovery support, a public computer lab for online forms, applications and communication, emergency supplies for individuals experiencing homelessness, including hygiene products, blankets and rain ponchos, a food pantry stocked with non-perishable items for food-insecure individuals without access to refrigeration or cooking, rapid HIV and Hepatitis C testing, harm reduction education and supplies and mobile resource outreach for individuals without transportation (by appointment).
