Baguio signs anti-drug deal with PDEA

BAGUIO CITY -- The city government has entered into a pact with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera Administrative Region (PDEA-CAR) on Oct. 28.

The memorandum of agreement was signed by Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong and PDEA-CAR Director Martin Francia on Oct. 28 at the city hall.

The partnership affirms the city's continuing support for PDEA's mandate in combating illegal drugs and implementing programs that strengthen drug prevention and enforcement initiatives in the Summer Capital.

The agreement formalized the use of a designated area at Burnham Park as PDEA's office to further enhance coordination, operational efficiency and community-based antidrug advocacy efforts.

Before attending a Coalition Against Illegal Drugs forum in Dallas, Texas, in July 2024, the mayor cited the need for Baguio to rationalize its anti-illegal drugs campaign and introduce new methodologies and approaches, especially in the aspect of demand reduction.
