Texas Tech QB Behren Morton set to start against Kansas State, Joey McGuire says

Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said Monday that quarterback Behren Morton will return from a two-week injury absence for the Red Raiders' contest against Kansas State on Saturday.

Morton went down against Kansas on Oct. 11 with a lower-leg injury. He served as an emergency quarterback against Arizona State the following week and was listed as available against Oklahoma State Saturday.

McGuire said his recovery speed allowed him to start against Oklahoma State, but he didn't feel the need to rush Morton back in.

"It's been a good day in the building," McGuire said. "He'll be the first in the huddle. We come out, our first thing right out of stretch is a training period, and he'll be out there ripping it."

Will Hammond played in both of the games Morton missed. However, Hammond suffered a torn ACL in the second quarter against Oklahoma State. Morton put his pads on coming out of the half for the first time since Kansas. He did not play, but he warmed up with the wide receivers.

Morton has been Texas Tech's primary starter for two seasons, totaling a 14-4 record in games he's started since 2024. He has thrown for 1,501 yards with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions in 2025.
