Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2025: Is It on November 1 or 2? Check Correct Date, Puja Timings and Rituals

For 2025, plan to observe Dev Uthani Ekadashi on Saturday, 1 November 2025, with the Ekadashi tithi continuing into Sunday, 2 November 2025.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2025:Dev Uthani Ekadashi sometimes called "Deva Uttana Ekadashi", "Devutthana Ekadashi" or "Prabodhini Ekadashi" is the eleventh lunar day (Ekadasi) of the bright fortnight (Sukla Paksha) in the Hindu month of Kartika.

In Vaishnava tradition, this day commemorates the awakening (utthana) of Lord Vishnu after his four-month yoganidrā (divine sleep) during Chaturmasa. It marks the resumption of auspicious activities like weddings, new ventures, puja, etc which were traditionally avoided during the Chaturmāsa period.

There is a little nuance around the exact date because of the lunar calendar and region-specific panchāng (Hindu almanac) interpretations.

According to several sources, the Ekadashi tithi begins on 1 November 2025 (Saturday) at around 9:11 AM and ends on 2 November 2025 (Sunday) at about 7:31 AM.

Many calendar sources list the "observed day" of Dev Uthani Ekadashi as 1 November 2025.

However, some write that the actual fast (vrat) is held on 2 November 2025, because the Ekadashi tithi spans into that date and the deciding factor is whether the tithi is present at sunrise.

For the region of India (e.g., Delhi / North India) the consensus seems to lean towards 1 November, but devotees may observe the vrat/parana (breaking of fast) on 2 November.

Based on that, ordinary people will celebrate Dev Uthani Ekadashi on November 01. While, Vaishnav people will observe Ekadashi fast on November 02.

During the four months of Chaturmasa (approximately from July/Ashadha Ekadashi to this day), Lord Vishnu is in cosmic slumber; this period is considered inauspicious for many "manglik" (auspicious) activities like marriages, upanayana, big ceremonies. On Dev Uthani Ekadashi, He 'wakes up', so from this day onward these activities resume.

It symbolises renewal, awakening and beginning. For devotees, it's a day to re-engage in spiritual and social rituals.

Many communities start planning weddings, naming ceremonies, new business activities after this day.

From a mythological angle: Lord Vishnu's rest in the milky ocean (Ksheer Sagara), his awakening signals the world's auspicious time for action and dharma.

Start your day early with devotion.

Keep the mind calm, engage in prayers, sing hymns / bhajans dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Maintain cleanliness and purity in surroundings, food, dress.

If observing a full fast, consume only sattvic food after the tithi ends (or as per your tradition).

If you can't fast, at least do upavāsa (partial fast) with prayers and charity.

Avoid non-vegetarian food, alcohol, negative thoughts.

Avoid major ceremonies (unless the tradition permits after Dev Uthani) until after the tithi ends.

Avoid starting highly materialistic / unspiritual activities during the tithi unless it is clearly an auspicious muhurat.

Avoid neglecting the Parana timing (the time to break the fast) doing so may reduce the religious benefit of the vrata.

For 2025, plan to observe Dev Uthani Ekadashi on Saturday, 1 November 2025, with the Ekadashi tithi continuing into Sunday, 2 November 2025. Ensure you check your local muhurat / panchang for exact timings in Gurugram/Delhi region.
