It was a horribly disappointing season for the Cowboys, who went 7-10, saw starting quarterback Dak Prescott miss half the season, and parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy. To make matters worse, their rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, won the Super Bowl.
It's safe to say the Cowboys will be out for revenge in 2025, and that starts with retooling the roster in free agency. Prescott will need more help on offense, and that could come in the form of an improved running back room or a number-two receiver to pair with CeeDee Lamb.
If Dallas goes the latter route, one NFL writer believes a four-time Pro Bowler would make the perfect addition.
On Thursday, The Sporting News' own Vinnie Iyer predicted that the Cowboys would sign Houston Texans wideout Stefon Diggs, one of the most productive receivers of the last decade and the brother of Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs.
"Diggs should get some consideration to stay with the Texans, but with his age (31) and injury issues, Houston may need to go the more youthful route to replace him. He can find a good home elsewhere in the state supporting CeeDee Lamb at a decent price," Iyer wrote.
"It doesn't hurt he can also play with his younger brother Trevon in Dallas while reuniting with former Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, the Cowboys' new passing game specialist."
Diggs' production started to tail off slightly in 2023, and that downward trend continued in his eight games in 2024 prior to tearing his ACL. If he can come back healthy, he'd be a massive asset to the Cowboys, even if he never returns to the 1,500-yard superstar he was in 2021.
Spotrac projects Diggs for a one-year, $13.5 million contract, which would be easy enough for Dallas to stomach, especially if they extend Micah Parsons and backload the deal. Assuming the Cowboys remain in win-now mode, this signing would make a lot of sense.
