Purchasing power of the U.S. Dollar... Sad but True...

Purchasing power of the U.S. Dollar... Sad but True...

In 1986 I had a summer job in a tool shop going around with broom and a bin on wheels sweeping up piles metal shavings from the floor and dumping it into the scrap bin. I made $6.35 an hour. Candy bars were 30 cents. 10 ounce bottles of coke were 25 cents. I could buy 21 candy bars every hour. Or, 24 bottles of coke, not including the bottle deposit.

Today candy bars are $2.50 and Cokes are $2.50. I'd have to make today about $55 an hour to buy what I was buying in 1986, with basically minimum wage. Anybody out there making $55 an hour at a minimum wage job? I didn't think so.

I never realized it back then. I was a rich person.
