Everything we know about Bengals' QB Joe Burrow's toe injury and his timeline for return

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a toe injury in the second quarter of the team's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 14.

Burrow was unable to return to the game and was seen by The Enquirer leaving the locker room with a walking boot on his left foot and crutches.

The Bengals have yet to publicly give an update on Burrow's injury and how much time he'll miss. Bengals coach Zac Taylor was asked about his quarterback's status following the game and said he didn't have any more information to provide at the time.

FOX 19's Jeremey Rauch and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on X that Burrow was initially diagnosed with turf toe. Rauch added that Burrow suffered torn ligaments also which makes the timeline for his return "tricky."

Turf toe is a sprain of the ligaments around the big toe joint. Depending on the severity of Burrow's sprain/tear, it could take anywhere from one week up to two months to fully heal. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is dealing with turf toe also and is expected to miss two to five weeks with the injury.

Grade 1 strains can take up to one week to heal. Grade 2 strains can take multiple weeks, and it can take Grade 3 strains two to six months to heal. Time and rest are viewed as the two best practices to heal turf toe.

Taylor will address the media on Burrow's injury during his regularly scheduled press conference on Sept. 15 at 3 p.m.
