WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- The American Red Cross is encouraging people to consider donating blood, plasma, or platelets in August during National Wellness Month.
During the summer months, when people are on vacation or engaging in recreational activities, blood donations often decrease, leading to supply shortages. The Red Cross says all blood donor types are needed, especially type O positive and type B negative blood types.
During August, individuals who donate blood, plasma, or platelets can receive a free A1C screening for prediabetes and diabetes. The results of the confidential screenings will be available one to two weeks after donation in the Blood Donor App or donor account at RedCrossBlood.org.
Those who come to give between Aug. 1 and 28 will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. For more details, visit RedCrossBlood.org/Test.
