Richard "Dick" Partridge
AUGUSTA - Richard "Dick" Partridge, 85, of Augusta, Maine, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 7, 2025.
Born on March 9, 1939, in Gardiner, Maine, Dick graduated from Cony High School in 1957. He went on to attend the University of Maine at Orono, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology as part of the Class of 1961.
Dick proudly served 20+ years to the National Guard, where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant, working as a photographer and journalist. His time in service reflected his dedication to his country and community. Dick was deeply committed to giving back to his community and over the years, he volunteered with the Red Cross, Lions Club, the Alfond Cancer Center, the Maine Coalition to Fight Prostate Cancer, and the South Parish Church Soup Kitchen.
He dedicated 27 years to his career as a Municipal Tax Assessor for the town of Winslow and before that, the State Bureau of Taxation. He wasn't very good at retirement and continued working as a part-time tax assessor for an additional three years and also served as a Board Member for the Maine State Board of Property Tax Review.
Dick was a devoted husband, father, stepfather (aka "Bonus Dad"), grandfather ("Papa"), and friend. He loved traveling and vacationing with his wife, Sue, and was an active member of the Harley Owners Group. He also loved to ski with his kids, Allan and Marianne, and was particularly proud of the "ski chalet" he built in the '60s near Sugarloaf. When he wasn't adventuring to the coast or mountains, he enjoyed tinkering around the house, meeting friends for lunch, or enjoying a brew on the back deck with all of his family.
Dick is survived by his wife, Susan (Benner) Partridge of Augusta, Maine; his son, Allan Partridge, and his wife, Debra (Petersen) of Nashua, NH; his daughter, Marianne Partridge, and her partner, Michael Freed of Boston MA; his stepdaughter, Erin (Dowling) Kane, and her husband, Sean, of Hollis, Maine; his stepson, John Dowling, of Augusta, Maine; and his grandchildren, Christopher and Madeline Partridge, and step-grandchildren Tristan and Isabella (Roxanne) Dowling.
He will also be deeply missed by many dear friends and his beloved cats, Rosie and Sammy.
Dick is now reunited with his parents, Ruth and Larry, his cousin Joyce Newman, and his stepson, Greg Dowling -- all of whom he adored.
A memorial service will be held in the spring; details will be shared with family and friends at a later date.
Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, One Church Street, Augusta, Maine.
