Halloween weather forecast for Scotland as guisers hope for dry weekend - Daily Record

Halloween is just a few days away and excited Scots across the country are getting ready for a fun-filled weekend. From families hitting the streets to go guising, to Halloween parties and club nights, there are lots of ways to celebrate spooky season.

And one thing that unites them all is wishing for good weather. No one wants to be knocking on their neighbours' doors hoping for sweets while it's raining, or waiting in a nightclub queue while your best costume gets soaked through.

So how is it looking for the thousands of revellers and trick-or-treaters who will be out across the country this weekend?

Unfortunately, it's looking like it might be a bit of a washout for many Scots, with a huge weatherfront of rain hammering the country for much of Friday, October 31.

According to weather maps from WX Charts, which uses Met Desk data, the massive wall of rain will move north-east across the UK from the afternoon of Thursday, October 30.

By that evening, certain parts of central Scotland could be seeing up to 10mm of rain per hour. As this moves north overnight, giving Orkney, Shetland, and the Highlands a good soaking, another band of rain moves in.

This means most Scots will wake up to downpours on Friday morning, with a weatherfront stretching from the Central Belt as far north as Aberdeen on the east coast and the Isle of Lewis off the west of the country.

The more positive news is that things do clear up as the day goes on. By the early evening, peak guising time, the rain is concentrated in the south-west of the country, though those in Scotland's largest city may still have to deal with some showers.

For those waiting until Saturday, November 1, to celebrate spooky season, the weather is largely inconsistent. According to WX Charts maps, virtually every part of Scotland will seen rain at some point on All Saints Day.

However, there will also be dry spells throughout, with all regions enjoying at least some respite from the Saturday showers.

The Met Office forecast for this week seems to back these maps up, with predictions for downpours throughout.

The national weather agency's forecast for Wednesday to Friday reads: "Remaining changeable with some further rain or showers at times, especially in the northwest. More widely wet and windy by Friday."

And the Met Office longer-range predictions for the early days of November aren't much more encouraging, with more rain expected as well as the potential for galeforce wind.

The forecast reads: "The end of October and first part of November is likely to be changeable with low pressure patterns tending to dominate, bringing spells of unsettled weather across the UK.

"This will mean showers or longer periods of rain will spread across most parts of the UK during this period. Some heavy rain is possible in all regions, but the largest totals will probably be across western areas. Strong winds are also likely at times, with a risk of gales."

There is some slightly positive news for the first week of the new month, at least, with the chance of some better weather in between the showers.

The Met Office forecast adds: "Between weather systems some short lived dry and bright intervals may develop, which bring the risk of overnight fog and frost. Temperatures overall though will probably be close to or slightly above average for the time of year."
