Mila Kunis is sharing the hard work she put in to prepare to play a ballerina in the 2010 movie Black Swan.
The 42-year-old actress starred alongside Natalie Portman in the Darren Aronofsky-directed thriller. The movie follows a ballerina who is sent down a dark spiral after a new dancer joins her company and the two of them are cast opposite each other in Swan Lake.
According to Mila, preparing to play a ballerina on the big screen was just as intense as being an actual ballerina on the stage!
The two initially had three months to prepare for the film, but the timeline was extended to six months as pre-production needed more time to budget for the movie. According to Mila, the extra three months to prepare was helpful, but the intensity of the movie didn't stop once the cameras started rolling.
"We would shoot those dancing scenes for hours, and I had bruises all over my ribs just from being lifted over and over again," Mila recalled.
Mila even shared that she had a serious injury on set, but that she was lucky enough not to have any serious issues afterwards. She told the publication, "I also dislocated my shoulder pretty early in the production and thought I was completely screwed, but Darren sent me to an acupuncturist and I somehow came out totally fine."
