Among the litany of needs for the historically bad Carolina Panthers defense is middle linebacker spot. And thankfully, there will be a decent amount of prospects at that position in Mobile, Ala. this week.
Here are four 'backers to keep an eye on during this year's Reese's Senior Bowl:
Demetrius Knight II (South Carolina)

South Carolina fielded one of the best defenses in college football, and one of the leaders of that unit was sixth-year senior in Knight.
The former Georgia Tech and UNC Charlotte defender is a physical player who offers the prototypical size to succeed at the position. Knight is also an effective blitzer and tackler in run support.
He isn't an above-average athlete, but his motor and effort make him an intriguing player to watch.
Cody Lindenberg (Minnesota)

Lindenberg is one of the class' best athletes at his position. He's a fluid defender who plays with great range, despite being a bigger middle 'backer at 6-foot-3, and 240 pounds.
While there may not be questions about Lindenberg's athleticism and coverage ability, he'll need to answer some as a run defender. Playing with more control and discipline as a tackler would allow him to develop into a quality depth piece who can provide value on special teams.
Smael Mondon Jr. (Georgia)

Mondon is another good athlete at linebacker who plays well in coverage, as either a man defender against running backs or against tight ends in zone. Like Lindenberg, the former five-star recruit will need to show his value as a run defender, especially in 11 vs. 11 drills and scrimmages during the week.
Georgia defenders will get closer looks than others during the pre-draft process due to their effectiveness throughout the season.
Jeffrey Bassa (Oregon)

Bassa is arguably the linebacker to watch during this week's festivities.
As a former defensive back, he shows the athletic ability to be a sufficient defender in coverage. But his real upside is in the run game, where he's a physical and violent player.
The former four-star recruit must improve his consistency in all facets. If he can display solid instincts and improve his play strength at the point of attack, Bassa is a potential starting WILL linebacker in the league.
