Syracuse, N.Y. -- The No. 1 seed Cornell lacrosse team takes on No. 2 Maryland in the NCAA Division I championship at 1 p.m., Monday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Cornell enters Monday's championship game seeking its first NCAA title since 1977.
The Big Red's senior class lost to Maryland in the championship game in 2022 as freshmen and gets a rare chance to write a different ending in their final game.
Cornell (17-1) has been atop the polls for most of the season thanks for a historic offense. Cornell leads the nation in goals (15.9 per game), assists (10.7) and shooting percentage (.365). It has scored at least 10 goals in every contest this season has set new season records for goals (286) and points (479).
Senior CJ Kirst, a shoo-in for the Tewaaraton Trophy, earlier this season set the NCAA Division I career scoring record. With 76 goals on the season, Kirst is six goals shy of the NCAA's single-season mark shared by Yale's Jon Reese in 1990 and Albany's Miles Thompson in 2014.
Maryland (14-3), coached by Cornell alumnus John Tillman, returns to another Memorial Day title bout behind its staunch defense and goalie, Logan McNaney. The Terps are playing in their fourth national championship game in five years, and McNaney has been in cage for all of them.
What to watch: Junior close defenseman Will Schaller, the Big Ten defensive player of the year, will almost certainly draw the matchup with Kirst at times. Schaller shut down Syracuse's Joey Spallina in the Terps' semifinal win on Saturday, holding the Orange's star attack to just one point -- an assist in the final 3 seconds of the game.
