Aldi UK adds lottery ticket sales to self-checkouts

Aldi, a major supermarket chain in the U.K., is partnering with National Lottery operator Allwyn to introduce lottery ticket sales at its self-checkout stations, according to a Readwrite report. The strategy will allow customers to purchase Lucky Dip tickets for various National Lottery games, including Lotto and EuroMillions, directly at self-checkouts.

The rollout, underway across Aldi's more than 1,050 U.K. stores, is expected to be completed by spring 2025. This integration streamlines the process for customers, eliminating the need to visit traditional checkouts or dedicated lottery areas. An age verification check by an Aldi employee will be required before the lottery ticket purchase is finalized.

"We're always looking for ways to improve the shopping experience for our customers, which is why we've made it even easier to enter The National Lottery while picking up essentials at our self-checkouts," Richard Thornton, communications director at Aldi, told the news outlet.
