'The Bosnian Menace' Denis Puric of Canada and Bosnia explained his decision to focus on kickboxing at this stage of his career fully.
The 40-year-old developed an enormous fan base in 'The Art of Eight Limbs' for his aggressive style and never-back-down attitude.
However, Puric acknowledged that Muay Thai is a young man's game, and the physical realities of competing against younger opposition have been taking a toll on him.
In an exclusive ONE Championship interview, Puric shared why he'd prefer to continue his career in kickboxing:
"So, I'm gonna let these young lions take over the Muay Thai world, and I'm gonna try to get that kickboxing title."
The rules also play a big factor in Puric's decision. Muay Thai bouts in the home of martial arts are contested in four-ounce gloves with elbows allowed and clinching permitted.
Younger, fresher athletes who can better absorb punishment certainly have an edge.
While Puric can still throw down with the best of them, kickboxing's heavier gloves, limited clinching, and no elbow strikes entice him more now in his forties. After all, competitive longevity is now his main goal.
Puric will face second-ranked contender Takeru Segawa in a flyweight kickboxing bout at ONE 173 on November 16 at Tokyo's Ariake Arena.

Things haven't gone Denis Puric's way as of late, as he's struggled against elite competition.
His devastating stoppage loss to Jaosuayai Mor Krungthepthonburi last March was the nail in the coffin, and the 40-year-old veteran knew he needed to change his approach.
'The Bosnian Menace' told ONE Championship:
"I was not considering the fact that I'm 40 years old. So, I kind of had a wake-up call with the last fight, and I'm just like, 'I'm just gonna take my time, man.' I'm gonna pull it back, recover, focus on the gym, and stop rushing into fights."
