Warriors sign Australian guard Taran Armstrong to two-way contract

Australian guard Taran Armstrong signed a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, the team announced. The news was first reported by Shams Charania of ESPN.

Armstrong, born in Burnie, Tasmania, played the previous two seasons with the Cairns Taipans in the National Basketball League. He averaged 17.1 points, 4.7 assists and 4.6 rebounds on 35.1% shooting from 3-point range in 19 games this season in Australia.

The 23-year-old played collegiately at California Baptist for two seasons from 2021-23, averaging 10.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists. He was named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, becoming the first player in California Baptist history to earn the honor.

Armstrong earned a scholarship in 2018 to the NBA Global Academy in Canberra, which has also hosted the likes of Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels. He spent three years there with the BA Centre of Excellence before briefly playing in the Southeast Australian Basketball League.

The 6-foot-5 standout has also represented Australia several times, including the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers last year with the senior team. He also led Australia to the gold medal in the 2019 FIBA U17 Oceania Championships, averaging 10.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and two assists.

Armstrong will now return to the United States and join the Warriors organization. He will likely spend time in the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors before suiting up with Golden State.
