Leave it to Katie Holmes to make an accessory as seemingly antiquated as the brooch look refreshingly cool again.
At Patou's men's Fall/Winter 2025 runway show during Paris Fashion Week on Sunday, Holmes sat in the front row looking sharp and sophisticated. Her outfit was mainly composed of blue and brown separates, including a blue-and-white striped blouse with a baggy turtleneck, tailored wide-leg pants in a mocha mousse hue, navy pointed-toe pumps covered in large white polka-dots, and a small dark blue leather handbag. Outside, the Dawson's Creek alum polished off the look with a glossy chocolate-brown leather trench coat with tortoiseshell buttons.
While her clothes certainly exuded an aura of unbothered cool, it was Holmes's choice of accessories that really spoke volumes -- namely, the trio of sculptural brooches pinned to the left side of her blouse. Once the staple accessory of Queen Elizabeth II and stylish grandmas everywhere, Holmes revived the art of the brooch with her effortlessly chic styling. Her brooches included an engraved gold plate, a glittery green gemstone, and a circular gold ring adorned with white pearls. Together, the jeweled accessories added an unexpected and unique personalization to Holmes's tailored outfit -- not unlike the effect of bag charms, another ongoing trend revival.
In a 2022 interview with Harper's Bazaar, Holmes reflected on how her sense of style changed after directing 2023 drama Rare Objects. "I did the costumes as well, which made me appreciate my friends who are costume designers and all the costume designers I've worked with in the past," she said. "It made me appreciate silhouettes and cuts and color in a way I thought I had, but when you put it on camera, when you are trying to tell a story, you can see how clothing can do a lot of the work for you."
