Lexus confirms two popular car models will be scrapped by end of 2025

LEXUS has confirmed it is chopping production of two popular premium coupes.

The harsh decision comes despite fans praising the "beautiful" vehicles which are sold worldwide.

Car Buzz said on Facebook last week: "The Lexus RC and its V8 sibling the RC F will be dropped at the end of the 2025 model year.

"An RC-F Final Edition with changes that should make any enthusiast happy will help soften the blow, and send the RC Coupe off with a 5.0-liter blast."

Lexus confirmed on its website: "After a decade on the market and more than a combined 90,000 units sold across 62 countries and regions, the Lexus RC and RC F will officially be discontinued at the conclusion of this model year."

It added that the Lexus RC will see minor changes for the 2025 model year.

Meanwhile, the RC F will only be offered in a mono spec Final Edition.

The 2025 RC and RC F models are expected to arrive in dealerships in the first quarter of this year.

Road & Track Magazine said on social media on Wednesday: "The brand is seeing the veteran model off as so many car companies do: with a special edition."

Digital automotive publication CarBuzz said that drivers will be able to buy the Final Edition in a range of colors, including gray, red, "sonic iridium and ultra white."

Motorists were told that the Final Edition will also sport a carbon fiber roof, side skirts and a front spoiler "with an active rear wing, all part of the carbon package offered last year."

CarBuzz added: "Each car will be numbered and a Final Edition emblem will be included on the front console.

"The bespoke interior is finished in black with red leather and ultrasuede, while red seatbelts add a final touch of sportiness."

Prices will range from $46,445 for the basic RC 300, to $94,000 for the RC F Final Edition.

Fans have been lamenting the move, with one asking: "What is Lexus doing? Discontinued the GS, now the RC, you guys are making such bad decisions."

Others agreed, saying, "all the good cars are going away" and that it was yet "another sad farewell."

One man described it as, "the end of an era... this vehicle holds a special place in my heart."

But there were also drivers who welcomed the "killing off of the RC and RC-F coupes."

One advised: "Thank God... now go back to the drawing board and start with a turbo..."

Another motorist wrote: "As typical, Lexus produced the same car without any major updates, and wonder why no one buys it."

Motortrend said that while the RCs are going away after the 2025 model year, and will be sent off with the RC F Final Edition, "there will be no special versions of the regular RC."

It added: "These special RC Fs wear 19-inch BBS forged aluminum wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, and effectively the same bits offered on the 2024 RC F's Carbon package."

Autoweek reported last Thursday that the "sporty, premium coupes are nearing their production ends after a long run."

The website also said: "After over a decade on the showroom floor -- and a successful stint on the racetrack -- the Lexus RC 2+2 coupe is ending production in 2025."

This followed its article last March on Lexus fielding a special entry in the Grand Touring Daytona (GTD) class of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

The No. 89 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 was driven to the GTD class victory in the first sprint race of the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

The U.S. Sun has contacted Lexus for further comment.

Lexus's announcement comes after auto giant BMW said it planned to pull a beloved model from US stores this year.

And Toyota announced the beloved Toyota Venza won't make it to the next model year after four years on the market.
