Donal Skehan takes cheeky dig at Eurosong controversy with perfect Halloween costume

Donal Skehan has thrown a cheeky dig at the Eurosong controversy he was a part of earlier this year, with a brilliant Halloween costume.

Donal was on the judging panel during the Eurosong contest, which saw the country choose its Eurovision entry.

While we ended up choosing EMMY, whose song Laika... saw us crash out of the semi-final yet again, the real controversy was surrounding contestant Samantha Mumba, who took to her Instagram after the contest to call Donal and his fellow judges bozos, and telling them to 'eat a bag of...' an eggplant emoji (given its shape, you're able to put two and two together).

Having responded to the controversy previously, Donal has taken another cheeky dig at the insult this Halloween -- sharing that he had dressed up as an aubergine carrying a bag.

'Happy Halloween, everybody! PSA: Be safe while trick or treating out there, from your friendly neighbourhood aubergine!' Donal joked.

'P.P.S.A.: ONLY ACCEPT sweets, fruit and nuts in your bag tonight!'

People loved the hilarious costume, with one person commenting, 'icon!' alongside a pair of laughing emojis. 'I can't cope! Best costume ever!' another commented, while another wrote 'this is the best thing I've seen all day!'

Donal previously spoke about the controversy on the premiere episode of his podcast with Arthur Gourounlian, where he also changed his Instagram name to include the emojis.

Speaking to his fellow bozo, Arthur Gourounlian on the premiere episode of their podcast Let's Do This, Donal said that while the name change was only to be a bit of temporary fun, his fatal flaw was that you must wait until 30 days after changing your Instagram name to change it back; and although the 30 days have since lapsed, the aubergine is still there.

'I have a confession to make,' Donal said. 'In the height of the Eurosong drama, when we all had nothing else to be talking about, I was gifted a whole load of aubergines, and I thought I'd change my name to Donal Aubergine.

'Now the biggest issue there is, I've been trying to change it -- YOU CAN'T CHANGE IT FOR 30 DAYS,' he said while Arthur laughed. 'The minute I changed it I was like "oh no!"'

Calling the name change his 'Eurosong karma,' Donal added that despite the 30 days lapsing, he's been unable to change it back for one reason or another -- even going so far as to plead to Meta to change it back.

'I've had an aubergine emoji next to my name for the last month and a half, and we have tried everything to get rid of it,' Donal said. 'So Instagram or Facebook, if you're listening, please remove the emoji.'

'I didn't realise you can't change it,' Arthur said. 'Surely it's been 30 days,' to which Donal responded 'exactly! The 30 days are up and it hasn't changed!'
